Over the years, Jonathan has been asked many questions about agents, and so today he welcomes Emmy Nordstrom Higdon, a literary agent with Westwood Creative Artists. They talk about what Nordstrom Higdon looks for in new clients/submissions, the current state of the publishing industry, and Nordstrom Higdon’s completely rational fear of zombies.

They hold a PhD in justice-oriented social work, they are a blogger at BooksBeyondBinaries.blog, and they are a member of the planning team for the Festival of Literary Diversity held annually in Brampton, Ontario.

They are a queer, trans, non-binary colonizer originally from Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland), the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk and the Mi’kmaq, now based in Tkaronto (Toronto, Ontario), which is unceded territory of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Mississaugas of the Credit.

They live with their partner, a Deaf Dalmatian, and two formerly feral Maine coon cats. They keep busy with thread painting embroidery, wholesome video games, snail mail, vegan cooking, and… obviously, reading.
