Literature is an art, but writing is not art. Writing is a craft process.
However, when writing ends, the writer may have produced literary artworks. This distinction matters, and its common misunderstanding causes most of the problems that writers face.
You cannot sit down and create art. You have to sit down and write.
If you try to create art, you will fail to create anything. At best, you will make something pretentious, failed art.
You have to focus on your craft. Art is the by-product, the end, of this craft process.
When you try to grasp the spoils, you spoil the victory.
